Relationship Development Intervention® (RDI®) Program is
a parent-based treatment program that helps parents learn to guide their child
to desire and succeed in genuine give-and-take relationships, while addressing
flexible thinking, rapid attention shifting, executive functioning and
emotional regulation.
The (RDI®) Program is based on the latest scientific research about autism,
the brain and developmental psychology.
Individuals with Autism, Asperger's, Pervasive Development Disorder or
Non-Verbal Learning Disorder have difficulties in certain core areas:
My name is Chrissy Poulton, M.S. and I live in Lindenwold, NJ with my husband and our 3 cats.
My interest
in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) started when I was a junior in college. I saw a job posting on the
billboard of the Psychology Department and decided to apply for the job.
I never worked outside of the field of ASD from then on. I fell in love with
these children and their families and only wanted to see them succeed.
Along the way I graduated with a
B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis.
Just
short of earning my masters degree, I learned about RDI® and decided to
attend a 2-Day presentation by
Dr. Steven Gutstein
and it completely changed my world!
I suddenly had the feeling that this was the missing
piece I had been looking for. You see, I had been feeling for sometime
that the work I had been doing with the children with ASD had been lacking in
some areas. I began to look into teaching social skills as I had clients
who were able to excel in academic areas but still had no friends. I had no
idea, until that day that, it wasn't a social skills program I was looking for
but a dynamic thinking program and a way to re-do missed developmental
milestones!
I realized something pivotal that day and that is, that
the brain can change and that I didn't have to work around the Autism or
compensate for it, but that it was possible to work directly on it! This
was truly a discovery for me!
Needless to say, I finished up my
degree, and then began doing research into the RDI® program. During
this time period I had the opportunity to work as an RDI® extender and see
first hand the changes this program had on this child and his entire
family! I decided to pursue my RDI® certification and now am privileged
to call myself a Certified RDI® Consultant and look forward to inspiring the
same passionate and hope in the families I work with as we remediate the
deficits of ASD together!
